Cannonballing into the scene, Civil Youth left their roots in Philadelphia to quickly take on the rest of U.S. (Independently) “You remind me of…” “How do you have so much energy on stage?”, “You guys are so different, but I love it!”. Fans and critics alike can’t quite put Civil Youth into a genre, and they’ve loved it ever since their start in 2015.
Civil Youth finds a way to fuse heavy guitars, electronic synths, Pop vocals, and fast rapping, into a song like no band has yet. At least not like this… After 8 national tours, sync placements in outlets like MTV & VH1, opening for Twenty One Pilots, Awolnation, & Grouplove, people are starting to see why these Philly boys are worth watching. Civil Youth’s highly anticipated 3rd full-length album is set for release on May 19th, 2017. You need to take notice why people can’t stop saying “Civil Youth is the next big thing".
Denver-born songwriter and artist AJ Smith writes with such an emotional honesty and clarity, that you can’t help but get goosebumps listening to his music. The power of his voice turns his nostalgia into your memories, his triumphs into your successes, and his heartbreak into your own loss. He has opened for The Eagles and Lindsey Stirling, and has been featured on radio stations including iHeart’s DC101, Z100, and Eagle 97.7. Smith plays ten instruments, has a ͞set of pipes that will rattle the framework͟ (DC Rock Live) and his live shows are a spectacle of showmanship and dynamic emotion. His singer-songwriter/indie-pop style is born out of his genre-crossing experiences including touring as fiddler in folk-bluegrass band The Circuit Riders, winning Best Original Performance in NYU’s prestigious 2011 UltraViolet Live Talent Competition (the same contest in which Lady Gaga competed when a student), and charting at #3 in Australia for his club track ͞Summertime,͟praised by BeatMyDay for Smith’s ͞majestic vocals.͟ His multi-instrumental abilities led Smith to join the cast of the off-Broadway and West End hit Close to You: Burt Bacharach Reimagined. Having received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees in songwriting and film scoring from New York University, Smith has studied and worked with songwriting greats including Glenn Frey, Roseanne Cash, Phil Galdston, and Barry Eastmond. Smith’s mastery of songwriting led to his recognition as the Abe Olman Songwriters Hall of Fame Songwriter of the Year and the Carole Bayer Sager Songwriting Scholarship Recipient.
Mike Schiavo is a 22-year-old singer/songwriter raised in Colonia, New Jersey. Mike's hard work and talent led him to Los Angeles to chase his dream and eventually, the stage of NBC's Emmy-winning show 'The Voice' on Season 10, where he quickly caught the attention of Grammy award winning artists Adam Levine, Pharrell Williams & Blake Shelton with his rendition of 'Talking Body' by Tove Lo. Schiavo also received praise & support after the shows airing from Tove Lo herself. He landed on Team Adam after a spontaneous duet with Adam Levine singing Maroon 5 classic 'She Will Be Loved'.
